Château Capendu,

Château Capendu is located in the heart of the village and has been the focal point since the 19th century, frequently documented in the history of the village. On the property one can find a huge open well,  10 meters in diameter, which supplies water to the village through the windmill. Located at the foothills of the Alaric Mountain, the entire village has been built on a rock and channels the water coming from slopes of the mountain.

Today the original buildings are still in use, the main building being the headquarters of the Alaric Community. Our technical buildings date from 1867 and accommodate two wine cellars: one with a capacity of 11,000 hectolitres build with tanks made in concrete which protects the wines from temperature variations; the second cellar accommodates our thermo regulated stainless steel tanks. It’s there where our expert craftsmen blend our award winning wines before they are bottled.

A recently air conditioned building of 600 m² allows us to store the bottled wines in the most appropriate conditions.

The vineyard has seen a lot of changes over the years, marked by crises and successful periods. Out of 100 hectares, 90 are today planted with vines. The property is undergoing permanent transformations in order to meet our customers requirements and ever more demanding expectations. The latest Chardonnay and Sauvignon plantations are highly labour intensive and demand a lot of attention.
